In 1940, King George VI called on people to pray. In a national broadcast he instructed the people of the UK to turn back to God in a spirit of repentance and plead for Divine help. God did not dry up the sea, but he did make it possible for 330,000 troops to escape from Dunkirk and be brought across the sea to England.

A Woman’s Fight (Judges 4:1-24)
This week we continue our them of ‘Fight the good fight’ and consider one of the battles in the book of Judges, where it was the women that followed God’s initiative. Tomorrow is a Holy Communion service with the normal children’s groups running.

Anger, lust, violence, joy, bravery, valiance, malice, envy, elation, depression, confusion, empathy. Humans are complicated creatures with many difficult emotions shown and perceived in complex ways, and our passage this week is undoubtedly one to stir up a reaction!

Joy in Victory (Psalm 126)
This week we welcome the friends and family of Eden Meyrick for her baptism. All our children’s groups are back after a three week break and we will also be reflecting on the upcoming VE day and joy in victory.

Then on VE day that was suddenly all over. The fear was gone, everyone could look forward to life returning to normal, the troops could come home and the work of reconstructing the country (and Europe) could begin. It is hard to imagine how incredibly joyful people would have felt on that day.

This Sunday is our annual joint service at St. George’s church at 11am, followed by the St. George’s Day parade down the High Street and a lunch in the hall. Do join us for the service and as much else as you can manage.

Jesus’ Resurrection (Luke 24:1-12)
Easter Sunday is the climactic Sunday of the Christian message as we gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This will be an All Age service and include Holy Communion.

For this year’s Easter publicity, I decided to include four sections: Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Unlike Christmas, which focuses on one key event, Easter is more of a narrative, a story with separate and key elements that all work together.
